Hash generator — MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512, HMAC

Use this to verify that a downloaded installer matches the official checksum, or that an HMAC value for API signing is correct. Files are never uploaded.

The file is never sent to a server — processed entirely in this browser

⚠︎ MD5 and SHA-1 have known collision attacks — use them only to verify files. For storing passwords, use bcrypt or Argon2 instead of a hash like this.

How to use Generate hash

  1. 1Enter text or choose a file.
  2. 2Hashes for every algorithm are shown together. Add an HMAC key if you need one.
  3. 3Paste the official hash into the expected-value field to see whether it matches (✓/✗).

Frequently asked questions

Is it okay to use MD5 or SHA-1?

This is fine for checking whether a file is corrupted, but since collision attacks are known, use SHA-256 or stronger for security purposes (signatures, passwords).

Can I use this to store passwords?

No. Passwords should be stored with a deliberately slow function like bcrypt, scrypt, or Argon2.

Does this work with large files?

The file is read into memory all at once for calculation, so files up to a few hundred MB work, but it may be slow or fail depending on your device's memory.
