Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between v4 and v7?
v4 is fully random, while v7 embeds the creation time at the start, so values sort in creation order. For a database primary key, v7 is better thanks to its index efficiency.
Can they overlap?
v4 is a 122-bit random number, so collisions are practically impossible. Even if you generate several in the same millisecond, v7 guarantees their order.
