HTML entity encode/decode — Unicode escape conversion

Use this to embed a code sample in HTML, or to decode characters that show up as \uD55C in a log or JSON into something readable.

The file is never sent to a server — processed entirely in this browser

Decoding resolves &name;, &#decimal;, and &#xhex; entities. Unknown names are left as is.

Frequently asked questions

Should Korean text be converted to entities too?

If the HTML is saved as UTF-8, Korean text can stay as is. Only < > & and quotes inside attribute values must be escaped.

What are the two parts, like \uD83D\uDE00?

Large characters like emoji are represented as two units (a surrogate pair) in UTF-16. Decoding merges them back into one character.
